Spring is fast approaching again - this is the time and this is the year for you to start growing your own food at home - it's easy, really. Make the effort, and you will be royally rewarded with fresh, tasty, organise food to eat and serve to family and guests.
You don't have to start big, start small, and bit by bit till you get the hang of it and you will see that I am right! You don't even need a big garden or a lot of outdoor space, you just need the purpose and the energy and effort to get started.
A bit of basic new gardening kit will come in handy to get you gardening, and remember that whatever pots and tools you buy this time will last you for years, as long as you look after them reasonably well, and don't leave them out in the wind and rain.
You will at the very least need a fork and a spade - used to dig and turn the soil and get rid of any weeds.
Hand tools are important, like a secateurs (pruning shears), shears, and a trowel for the fine pruning and planting. I still have my first trowel, nearly lost so often, then found hidden where I left it a few weeks before! So it is worth investing in good durable and quality products at the off, they will endure.
A decent watering can will be useful, although you can survive with make do watering containers of course, like old water bottles or slightly damaged jugs.
And gardening gloves are useful of course, these range in variety, cost and quality - start with a cheap pair and upgrade later.
Then you need to decide what you want to grow first this time - choose a favorite herb or vegetable. There are plenty of vegetables and herbs that will grow quickly if you are impatient for results, and others that will grow slowly, but require less attention if this is preferred.
If you don't have a garden, and even if you do, start growing indoors in pots and containers - the advantage of growing indoors is that the plants will be near to hand when you want to use them in your cooking, or as garnishes for salad dishes.
So what are you waiting for - get gardening and start growing today, it really is quite easy so abandon those excuses and get digging.
Get gardening this spring, no excuses now. Start easy, sow seeds indoors now, select from your favorite herbs and vegetables and go for it.
